School will close for the SUMMER HOLIDAYS on Friday 21st July 2017 and re-open to pupils on Friday 8th September 2017.

Physical Education (PE)

At Dersingham Primary School we use the LCP scheme of work for our P.E lessons.  These lessons are all based on the new curriculum and cover a variety of indoor and outdoor activities that are covered over the course of the academic year.  All children are timetabled to receive two hours of P.E a week.

Indoor P.E:
In indoor P.E the children cover both gymnastics and dance units throughout the year.  Our dance units are taught in a cross curricular way and are linked to the children's topic work being undertaken in class.  Many of these lessons are taught by a dance specialist from the ARTIS company and focus on creating and improving performances as the sessions progress.

Outdoor P.E:
Dersingham Primary School delivers a varied and balanced curriculum of outdoor P.E sessions.  These sessions include Invasion games (such as football or tag rugby), striking and fielding games (such as cricket or rounders) and net/wall games (such as tennis) in addition to athletics.  These sports are timetabled at various points of the school year to ensure complete curriculum coverage.

Swimming:
Children at Dersingham Primary School are taken swimming in Year 3 whereby they are taught by qualified swimming teachers in the learner pool.  These lessons take place at East Ham leisure centre.  Each Year 3 class receives swimming lessons for one term and children are tested at the end of this period to gauge their level of proficiency.

Extra curricular sport/P.E:
At the current time, Dersingham Primary School offers a wide variety of sports based after school clubs.  Both the boys and girls have a six a side school football team that compete against other schools in the local area.  Training is led by the P.E coordinator and lead learning mentor.  In addition to this, the school runs a dance club and multisports club once a week which allows the children to try unfamiliar sports. In addition to this, we run a multisports club in the morning which is run by a qualified Leyton Orient sports coach.

Clothes for P.E.
It is important that your child brings a P.E kit into school at the beginning of each term.  This kit will remain in school throughout the term and can be taken home to be washed during the holidays.   Children in Years 5 and 6 are encouraged to take their PE kit home weekly.
Your child’s P.E kit should contain the following;

  • Blue shorts
  • A pair of blue or black tracksuit bottoms that are gathered at the ankle
  • A white t-shirt
  • A pair of plimsolls
  • A P.E bag.

Please make sure your child’s clothing is clearly marked with their name.
