Spiritual, Moral, Social & Cultural (SMSC)

Here at Dersingham, we teach SMSC weekly.  SMSC helps to develop the ethos of our school and teaches our children to be good citizens both now and in the future.  We celebrate other cultures and encourage our children to share their own cultural experiences.  We promote British Values through our assemblies and through follow up sessions.  We held our own school elections in 2015 - coinciding with the General Election.  We discuss democracy and rules with our children and encourage our children to develop their own voices.  We have an active School Council of elected class members, who discuss whole school issues and feed back to their class mates.

Explore beliefs and experience; respect faiths, feelings and values; enjoy learning about oneself, others and the surrounding world; use imagination and creativity; reflect.

Recognise right and wrong; respect the law; understand consequences; investigate moral and ethical issues; offer reasoned views.

Use a range of social skills; participate in the local community; appreciate diverse viewpoints; participate, volunteer and cooperate; resolve conflict; engage with the 'British values' of democracy, the rule of law, liberty, respect and tolerance.

Appreciate cultural influences; appreciate the role of Britain's parliamentary system; participate in culture opportunities; understand, accept, respect and celebrate diversity.

We also teach Philosophy for Children (P4C) at Dersingham.  We hold weekly philosophical discussions in class to develop children's critical thinking and reasoning skills.
