  • Intent

    At Dersingham Primary school, we aim to make our science lessons memorable for pupils and want them to feel like they are scientists! Our intent is to offer every pupil a broad and balanced science curriculum which enables them to confidently explore and discover what is around them, so they have a deeper understanding of the world we live in. We want to instil a love of science and for pupils to develop a lifelong interest in the subject.

  • Implement

    At Dersingham we have a coherently planned and sequenced curriculum which has been carefully designed and developed with the pupil at the centre of all we do. The topics have been sequenced to ensure that pupils know more and remember more by building on their knowledge of natural phenomena. We meet the needs of the disadvantaged pupils in our community by making the topics easily accessible and related to the real world. The curriculum has been written so that all pupils are given opportunities to continually build upon and develop their scientific understanding through repetition and rehearsal of skills. Pupils are encouraged to ask their own questions and are given opportunities to use their scientific skills and research to discover the answers.

    Our teachers ensure that they are teaching the methods, processes and nature of science by following our rigorous medium-term plans. They encourage pupils to be independent scientists through;

    • Communication
    • Making models (including diagrams)
    • Prediction
    • Measuring
    • Classification
    • Gathering Data
    • Comparing/Contrasting
    • Observation
  • Impact

    Our practical curriculum inspires and excites our pupils. We develop creative, independent thinking scientists who have the knowledge and skills to succeed in a changing world.
